Italian Verb Tenses

The FUTURE Tense

Regular verbs in the future tense fall into two groups depending on the ending of the verb.

The future tense for "are" verbs is formed by changing the "are" ending to "er", and then adding the appropriate verb ending.

Group 1: -are Verbs

  singular plural
1st-person ò emo
2nd-person ai ete
3rd-person à anno

Examples:

io parlerò, tu parlerai, lui parlerà, noi parleremo, voi parlerete, loro parleranno

The future tense for "ere" and "ire" verbs is formed by dropping the final "e" from the ending of the infinitive and then adding the appropriate ending from below. Note that they are the same endings as those for the "are" verbs.

Group 2: -ere/-ire Verbs

  singular plural
1st-person ò emo
2nd-person ai ete
3rd-person à anno

Examples:

io crederò, tu crederai, lui crederà, noi crederemo, voi crederete, loro crederanno
